Services

These are the everyday tools that a Vishwanath Grid researcher uses. Each one is a well-established open-source project, run on Vishwanath Grid hardware, and reached through the same single login.

If you sign in at the start of the day, every tile below recognises you automatically — no second password.

Not all of these are live yet. The tools listed here are what the platform is being built around; the roadmap shows the order they come online in.

  • Open OnDemand

A web page for the cluster. From here researchers submit jobs, launch a Jupyter notebook or an RStudio session on cluster hardware, and browse files — all in a browser, no terminal needed.

  • JupyterHub

Multi-user Jupyter notebooks for Python, R, and Julia. Each researcher gets their own workspace; the actual work runs on cluster hardware, not the laptop.

    jupyterhub.vishwanathgrid.org

  • Forgejo

A place to keep code, datasets, and reproducibility artefacts. Works like GitHub — issues, branches, pull requests — but self-hosted on the cluster.

    forge.vishwanathgrid.org

  • OpenProject

Project management for research groups: timelines, milestones, and budget tracking. Useful for funded projects with reporting obligations.

    openproject.vishwanathgrid.org

  • Wiki

Long-form group documentation — protocols, runbooks, onboarding notes, and shared knowledge that survives a student finishing their degree.

    wiki.vishwanathgrid.org

  • HedgeDoc

Real-time shared notes, like a Google Doc but with Markdown. Good for meeting minutes, lab notebooks, and joint paper drafts.

    hedgedoc.vishwanathgrid.org

  • Mattermost

Team chat with channels, threads, and search. Roughly comparable to Slack; entirely self-hosted.

    mattermost.vishwanathgrid.org

  • Vikunja

A lightweight task tracker for individuals and small teams. Kanban boards, due dates, calendar integration.

    vikunja.vishwanathgrid.org

  • Grafana

Dashboards that show cluster activity — who is running what, how busy each site is, and per-group resource accounting.

For operators

Site administrators have a couple of extra surfaces. These are gated to operator accounts only — researchers will not see them.

How the single login works

Every tile above sits behind one identity provider. You sign in once at auth.vishwanathgrid.org; the session carries through everything for the rest of the day.
